Medicare GLP-1 Bridge
Does Medicare cover weight-loss drugs in 2026?
Yes — for the first time. Starting July 1, 2026, Medicare covers GLP-1 weight-loss drugs (Wegovy, Zepbound KwikPen, Foundayo) at a $50 monthly copay for eligible Part D members, through a pilot called the GLP-1 Bridge that runs through 2027.

A 2003 law barred Medicare from covering drugs used only for weight loss. The GLP-1 Bridge runs under special research authority to test lifting that restriction, and is expected to cost the federal government $2.5–4.4 billion a year.
Because it is a time-limited pilot ending December 31, 2027, the window to use it is now. Eligibility keys on Medicare Part D plus a qualifying BMI and condition profile.
